Who or what….?

1) Was the wife of the King who was 5’6” at the beginning of his reign, and only 4’8” at its end?
2) Is named (in translation) ‘The Father of Waters’?
3) Was the father of Farmer George?
4) Was technically supported by a lion and dragon, but preferred a Pelican?
5) Enlarged his fathers hunting lodge, and moved his court there, but didn’t hang around long enough to attend the treaty?
6) Was the capital of Erik Bloodaxe, until he was driven from it?
7) Was the home of the original Colossus?
8) Was born in 1732, and attained the command of the Virginia Militia in the British wars with the French?
9) Raised the standard in Nottingham, and then went to Warwickshire in time for October 23rd, 1642
10) Was arrested for complicity in the Earl of Essex’s rebellion, but still went on to be Governor of Virginia. Is he related to a _different_ Sussex pavilion?

And what links them?

1) To be fair, it could be Anne Boleyn sans head, or Henry 8 for shrinking-- or the bride of Chas 1 after his beheading. (But wasn't Jamie 6/1 a short man too? Dunno the name of his Danish princess...)

10) Sir Walter Raleigh?

Shame shame shame I know so little about British monarchy- or is this because I tend to read Marx and Engles who would say to all of them "Off with his head"?!

1)It's at the end of _his_ reign, so it's the bride of Chaz 1, called....?

10) Nope

And on the subject of Marx and Engels, it's time for me to make some proper tea. Cos property is theft ;)

1. Henrietta Maria.
2. Mississippi River.
3. Frederick, Prince of Wales.
5. William Rufus? or son thereof?
7. Rhodes.
8. George Washington.
9. Oliver Cromwell, or Prince Rupert?

1, 2, 7, 8 all correct
3 is correct, but I *ahem* got the question wrong. I meant who was the GRANDfather of Farmer George ;)
5 nope
9 Certainly not Cromwell. And Rupert may have been there, but it wasn't him...

3. George II, then. :-)

Hmm. Henrietta Maria. Mississippi. George II. Rhodes. Washington.

Hmm.

They're all furrin.

Um. They're all either bits of the US, or have had bits of the US named after them. Henrietta Maria had Maryland named after her. Mississississississippi, doh. George II -> Georgetown. Washington, like, duh. Rhodes, though??

Apparently the Statue of Liberty is "the modern colossus". Does that count? :-)

US states. :-)

4 sounds like Florida, if only for the Pelican theme, but I don't know who.

5 Louis the mumble/Louisiana?

6 No clue. :-)

9 therefore must be Charles/Carolina.

10 Google reliably informs me that it is Thomas West aka Baron (or Earl, depending on the source) de la Warr, so I'm guessing Delaware. :-)

4: Not Florida, no
5: Correct. Name that number ;)
9: Yep. Both the Carolinas.
10: And yes, Baron de la Warr, after whom the Delaware river, and then the State are named.

Still to get....

4) Was technically supported by a lion and dragon, but preferred a Pelican?

6) Was the capital of Erik Bloodaxe, until he was driven from it?

I'd have thought that they were referring to the District of Columbia, hence Washington D.C. in no. 8 Most of the other of the states other than Louisiana and Mississippis are Colonial States-(13 Colonies) just missing a few such as New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. Either that or just the "Eastern Seaboard" states... Very good witticisms, Frodo.

Where do you find the time to make these quizzes? I'd like to make one up on Shakespeare, but don't have His plays here with me. Any suggestions?
