Interesting.

Whilst west midlands plastics interviews went ahead yesterday as planned, the Manchester interview committee have written an open letter, asking for interviews to be suspended, and for all applicants to send CVs, to allow comparison of the selected and unselected candidates, and to permit more people to be shortlisted, if appropriate.

Manchester is due to appoint 10 posts at the ST3 (my level). Out of a national total of 56. So, almost 20% of the national posts. That's significant by any measure.

It could be that finally, at the 11th hour, the consultant body have decided that enough is enough, and they will not permit dilution of the ability of doctors to select their peers in the best interests of their patients, rather than at the political behest of HMG.

So far, so hopeful.

I notice that there is more publicity about the surgeon's refusal to take part in the news today. Nothing in depth but at least a general mention.

I have to say that I completely don't understand how doctor's are "chosen" in your country. Here in the US, you specialize in whatever you want to specialize and if you pass the Boards, then that's it.

Good luck! I'm still wanting to import you, but I suspect not having to would make you happier ;p
