On the ferry, purplemermaid, ormsweird and myself got to discussing a casting of the Discworld. Which got me to thinking- do people see them the same sort of way? Some examples....

The Patrician/Havelock Vetinari: Alan Rickman
Vimes: Pete Postlethwaite
Angua:Angelina Jolie
CMOT Dibbler (et al): Kevin Spacey
William de Worde: Jack Davenport

Hmmm, I hadn't thought of Rickman before but that could work. My previous preference would have been for Ian Richardson (House of Cards, Porterhouse Blue). I could also see Rickman as Rincewind.

Had he still been alive - John Thaw for Vimes.

Dunno about AJ for Angua. Hadn't thought much about casting her, though for some reason Tamsin Grieg springs to mind.

I always wanted Stephanie Cole (Waiting for God) to be Granny Weatherwax. Emma Chambers (Vicar of Dibley) for Magrat. Come to that, I can see Dwn French in the role of Nanny Ogg.

Brian Blessed for Archchancellor Ridcully, though having heard Graham Crowden (Very Peculiar Practice/Waiting for God) do the role in the animated version of Soul Music, he would be a good option.

Penelope Keith could do Lady Sybil.

Penn & Teller would be interesting as Colon & Nobby :)

I wondered about either Judi Dench or Maggie Smith as Granny Weatherwax. I can see Emma Chambers as Magrat certainly. For Nanny Ogg, I always saw her more as a... erm.... 'Nursie' in Blackadder 2 sort of person.

Brian Blessed, of course, we had already penciled for (both) Ridcullys.

Christopher Lee as the voice of Death (well, James Earl Jones is in there as a contender too...)

I can't recall who we suggested as Nobby and Colon. Purplemermaid?

Come to think of it, if Alan Rickman wasn't doing anything else, he could do the voice of Death, or possibly Stephen Moore (Marvin in the original Hitch Hikers Guide) :)

Paul Darrow for Vetinari for me, personally.

Jackie Chan, in his more subdued, 'innocent abroad' moments makes for an intriguing Two Flowers.

Rhys Ifans for Rincewind. Definately.

Can't think of anyone - yet - for Carrot. But it's going to bug me for days now...

Actually, I had pencilled Jackie Chan in as Lu Tze...

And yes, I had Rhys Ifans for Rincewind :)

How about Miranda Otto for Angua? Angua was always blonde in my mind ...
