As an aside from a (rather silly) fantasy RP/wargaming list I'm on....

go to google...

type in "French military victories"

click "I'm feeling lucky"

read the result!!!!!

(I apologise for multiple exclamation marks. It's not _that_ funny!)

LOL! I love that!

PS. will a thick leather gorget be ok for fencing or does it need steel plating?

Technically wax boiled leather is legal if thick enough, but I'd advise steel, having caught a brisk shot in the neck on a leather one.

Hows a leather one with steel plates rivited on?

Better, but it's one thing I'd really recommend going steel on. But some various people have a pattern copy for my steel gorget that I'm sure you can get (Ed/Mareddud for one).

My gorget is made of leather, it's not even waxed or boiled or anything. It's also thicker than sole leather. I've never had a problem with it. It's a pattern for heavy combat and is well padded on the inside.

And Tom, French Military Victories? What's that? ;)

Normally it's not a problem. But I have been gacked sufficiently hard through a wax boiled half inch leather gorget that I had to sit out the remainder of the bout.
