Well, I'm giving a lecture this afternoon. I _know_ there are some nice animations and indeed time lapse electron micrograms of cellular motion of the kinds I'm talking about, which I figured would make a nice way of making it easier for the students. I _know_ that they're on the web. Can I find the damn things?

what's the first thing you learn on the 'net? if useful, bookmark it ;-)

Sadly, only reason I know they're out there, is that my own tutor used 'em in his powerpoint, so I never saw them 'in situ' to bookmark. Otherwise, great :)

Tried that. He's on holiday. Never mind. Found some animations and pictures that would do.

Hope the lecture went well. I find when all else fails with the electronic visuals, make up for it with a good presentation style- dynamic range of voice, a bit of movement, body language, and the all time favourite, talking with my hands! I have amused many students by unconsciously acting things out with my hands, and amused them even more whilst obviously trying NOT to talk with my hands. Just remember they are ickle and still look to you as the expert!

Well, it went. I have to say, I'm depressed at the sheer cluelessness of the average medical student. Having seriously 'Janet-and-Johnned' my presentation, I was flabberghasted when I needed to define some of the long words I'd left in. Like 'extracellular matrix'. I mean, I know medschool doesn't teach a lot of the pure science stuff it used to as a precursor to clinical involvement (more touchy-feely social sciences instead), but damn.... inflammation is _the_ body process in sickness and healing! You'd think it would come up _somewhere_ in their first two years of study!

Ah, the importance of an in-depth knowledge of how to use Google... :) If Google fails, try www.dogpile.com - it's a meta-search engine covers both Google and the stuff Google misses.

I've felt that ever since Google went IPO, its search engine has actually become less capable of sucking out useful information from the internet.
