I'm not sure....
Sep. 25th, 2004 06:32 pm...... which is worse. Being busy at work, or _not_ being busy at work!
I'm on call all weekend, although not on for hands today, which is normally the lions share of our operating (what with the general level of intellect of a farming area who choose to insert hands into bits of agricultural machinery which have large, powerful, and rapidly moving sharp bits). As a consequence, I got my two operative cases done this morning, whilst the boss took the Orthopaedic registrar (who _is_ on for hands) through the hand surgery cases.
So, I've been good. I've read three or four papers about pressure ulcers (including the delightfully named 'The formation of pressure sores and the role of nursing care' which is _so_ open to misinterpretation ;). I've seen a few minor problems on the ward. And now I'm bored out of my tiny mind.
The mess, which I pay 15 quid a month to has no functioning Sky tv, so I can't even watch the cricket. And I don't dare head for home, cos if I do, I will inevitably just be called back! Blah!

Date: 2004-09-25 08:52 pm (UTC)9/10 ulcers in hospitals are us trying to clear up the damage done by the poor quality of care in nursing homes.
But there is also the predisposing factors of age, sex, state of skin etc.
Gonz (in defence of nurses, and i am the first to admit and the crap state of the nhs as well and im the first to confront lazy health care staff)
Re: Papers
Date: 2004-09-25 09:30 pm (UTC)But certainly, the high incidence and prevelance in nursing homes is probably a combination of poorly qualified/trained staff, at too low staffing levels, along with a population who are sitting ducks for it (low mobility, low nutritional status, thin skin, prone to shearing forces, little subcutaneous fat).
Anyway, go gettem Gonz ;)

Date: 2004-09-26 07:07 pm (UTC)Seriously though, I'm not working evenings any night this week, so when do you want us? ;)
Din din
Date: 2004-09-27 05:43 pm (UTC)Why don't you and Ormsweird come by for dinner on Thursday or Friday night? I don't think I have your number (or you mine) so maybe we should just get that sorted first...
I usually have dinner around 7, but enjoy drinkies and company while I cook before hand. Any time after 5:30???
Oh- diet restrictions/dislikes???
Hope all is well on duty!
