I did some RPG before I met Padraig, but my grasp of board games was limited to Monopoly and children's games. But he wasn't very into it back then either, I think he only owned RoboRally (which we played a LOT), Civ and History of the world. It's grown since then... But he's the driving force, I probably wouldn't be playing if it wasn't for him.

I had a hankering to live in the UK from the age of 12, partly reinforced by familial ancestral stories and a general love of all things British. A semester in London in 1992 spurred an annual summer pilgrimage to the UK, but that was not enough. In 2000, I took the semester off to locate a good 'match' for postgrad work. I was torn between programmes, so went entirely on my impressions of the interviews. It just 'matched' in St Andrews.

The history part came after, as I was already a frustrated sociologist at the time.
