Rushing around...
Apr. 22nd, 2006 11:12 amBeen a little while since my last update. (Forgive me father!)
Thursday was busy.... full day at work, and then off to London in the evening for a course Friday. And meeting up with Ormsweird at the station, I got to see my name in print.
Yep.... in the letters section of BBC History Magazine, complete with a nice 16th century picture of man-with-arm-bandaged-to-nose, was my letter saying 'Uh..... no' to someones description of 1820 as the date for the first plastic surgical operation. Yay me :)I have to say, I actually got more of a thrill out of seeing it than out of a number of my more 'serious' publications- partly, I think because my friends are more likely to read this one!
Then on to London, getting in laaaaate, and then going over to Aldgate where my beloved had found an okay hotel at less than half price (translation: An okay hotel at a price which was reasonable, rather than Londonised).
Friday, the course.....
A(dvanced) T(rauma) L(ife) S(upport) refresher.
ATLS is normally a 3 day, very intensive course, with theory and practical exams on the last day. Refreshers, like me, get to resit just the tests, as long as they're within 4 1/2 years of last doing the course. Mine was almost exactly 4 years ago, so much frantic revision from the manual, as the tests are... gruelling. (Pass mark of 32/40 on the MCQ tests, and a practical exam with actor, examiner and one assistant who has to play dumb, and only do what you ask them to do.).
It appears I'm safe, however (Told I passed the MCQ, and very safely passed the practical, and I ought to consider, once I make registrar, resitting the whole course, so I could be eligable for instructor status).
And then back to Swansea, getting it at 0 (what does the 0 stand for? Oh my GOD, it's too early!) 1:00.
And so to bed.
