... what people want from me.

Norwich didn't want me either.

The consultant for a nice looking job in Durham (with research attached) suggested that it was a bit of a static step to take his post, rather than getting a Reg job, but I can't _GET_ a Registrar job. That's why I want his one (for which I'll still be applying). It's as though there's all this effort into training, and so on, and at the end of it, you're just casually discarded as being undertrained for one level of job, and overtrained for the other. What do they want? Blood?

That's 'market forces' for you :-(

Chin up! Onward, upward...

Right now, I'd settle for

'Onwards, sideways' or even 'Onwards, slightly downwards'

:(

Unfortunately, there's not significant hospital setups in Iceland...

Somehow that doesn't surprise me. They seem to have money for doctors and lots of nice shiny equipment, but there are so few patients that they're not quite as practised in the UK. Not enough burns patients to warrant you, I fear. And even if there were, they'd be in Reykjavik... There was a house fire in Akureyri about 4 months ago, but that's about it.

It's sad to know that the NHS is as bad as the academic sector on the job front. *Hug*
