Musical interrogation meme - carrying the baton...

Anthraxia set me this, and I felt I ought to reply.

1. Total volume of music files on my computer: 2.3GB

2. The last CD I bought was: Erm, not sure, actually. I think it was a 60's compelation for the car (long drive, and limited supplies in the services)

3. The last song I listened to before writing this was: The Kinks: Waterloo Sunset

3b. Song playing right now: The WHO: Behind Blue Eyes

4. Five songs or albums I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me:

Erm, that's hard, actually.
i) Joss Stone: The Soul Sessions. Wonderful relaxed operating music, with a little bit of throatiness

ii) Nina Simone: The Very Best of Nina Simone. If for nothing else for Mississipi Goddam!

iii) The Best of the Kinks: Just because

iv) Shania Twain: Come on Over. The Ultimate operating music. Fast tempo, cheerful, and worth it for getting a backing chorus of nurses singing 'Man, I feel like a woman'.

v) Bob Marley: Legend. Does anyone need a reason? ;)

5. Which five people are you passing this baton to, and why?

Viola_arvensis: Because I think she might surprise me, and because she's probably listening to a lot of music right now

purplemermaid: Because I have _no_ idea what she likes, music wise!

juanfandango: *Cackle*

sharikkamur: Because we heard the tales of the ipod, but I don't actually know what she listens to!

and Cathaysun: Because I think it might be a bit different!

1. Total volume of music files on my computer: 37GB

2. The last CD I bought was: Buy? CDs? You jest, surely. :-) Seriously, I bought four CDs of Chinese classical music two or three weeks ago. One is a collection of xun (a musical instrument) music. The others are music from the Tang, Song and Yuan dynasties lovingly recreated using period instruments. I haven't ripped them yet because I'm lazy.

3. The last song I listened to before writing this was: Ummm... Genesis: Home By the Sea, I think.

3b. Song playing right now: Summer Palace: The Dancing Dog

4. Five songs or albums I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me:

In no order and in a list that was different five minutes ago and will be different five minutes from now:
- Flowers and Jade Trees at Back Courtyard (*VERY* traditional Tang-era piece).
- The Hong Lou Meng opera, especially the title ... can't really translate the word. Soliliquy? Aria? Something like that.
- Neil Young: Greendale (the whole album).
- The soundtrack to Hero.
- South Park: Uncle Fucker.

5. Which five people are you passing this baton to, and why? I'm not sure what this means.

Hello there Hobbitomm - I don't normally do these things but because you said you knew nothing of my music likes I am going to do a midified reply to you.

1)Total volume of music files on my computer - none, zero, zilch

2)The last CD I bought was - actually two at the same time: The Headling Drum (Chris Conway and Chris Pueston) and Healing Waters - The legends of the CHalic Well (Govannen - which also includes Chris Conway).

3)The last song I listened to before writing this was - Not counting the stuff on R2 in the car (played in case of traffic news) whatever it was on the end of "The Remains of Tom Lehrer"

3b)Song playing right now - nothing, I am too busy catching up on mail and such like having come back from a week's working in Scotland.

4) Five songs or albums I listen to a lot or that mean a lot to me - well this is the main modification because you know nothing of my likes:

a) Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel - these two artists were part of my growing up and I still love listening to their work.

b) Drum beat - I love the sound of drums, which was why I liked Adam and the Ants as they had two drummers. I also like such things as the The Wadaiko Drummers of Japan, the playing of drums at Whirl-y-Gig and is one of the reasons I bought "Healing Drum"

c) Songs to yowl at: Meatloaf, Poison, Heart, Def Leppard, early Bon Jovi, Melanic C, first part of Chris COnway's "Earth Rising"

d) Folk/Filk - Whirling Pope Joan's "Spin", Urban Tapesty, Runrig, Chris Conway, MEW, and so on. I even have a CD by, I think, a Breton band called Melusine!

e) Pre-classical - which is where you my collection of medieval and renasiance music, including the stuff for dancing

So does that give you some clues?
