Well, day (full) two of the big move, and things are progressing. Slowly. Ormsweird's just nipped off to the Doc's for a bit, so I'm taking a breather from loading up crates to move into my car (not least because my car is currently parked rather a long way away, and I'm hoping something closer will empty up soon!). It's actually not bad- the amount of empty floor is increasing with each trip, and barring disasters, I think we'll have it done either this evening, or possibly tomorrow morning. Then we have to sort it all out at the other end, and put up shelving units and so on. It's looking as though we'll need to move some of the bookshelves we were planning on just tossing out, tho, based on the massive piles of books in the new house! And we gave a load away, too!

This morning, you should...go to your local breakfast diner, pour coffee on your waitress, do three cups of creamer as shots, and run screaming from the building.
Then, after lunch...sit in the park, screaming at the squirrels to stop eating your brain waves.
Dinner will consist of...the souls of all those who do not acknowledge the true scope of your dark power, with scones.
Afterwards, you set off into the evening to...pass out the pamphlets you had made up preaching the divine word of Squiknor, lord of the lemmings, who shall inherit the earth when all the non-believers are gone.
At the height of your madness, you will calljuanfandango
And the two of you will proceed to...go to a club and have a contest to see who can lick the most unwitting strangers by dawn.

At this point with boxes surrounding me, I can definitely understand the move thing. I move myself in a week. I wish you luck with yours and I hope Claire gets better.

i hope it all goes ok

from my non-existant experience of moving i can say it sucks

last time i was moved i was staying with my cousin. he moved from central London to surrey. i was jetlagged and mostly slept. they had fabulous movers and i hardly notcied (through my sleep induced haze) that i was being transported with their whole house across England

ok, enough moving stories. must work, dammit

good luck!

Ah well, there you lay your finger on the crux. They had movers. We just got the heavy stuff moved by the movers....

Looking forward to seing this flat myself... And I can bring my own olive oil, as I suspect Ormsweird has dumped most condiments that do not need to get moved to the Hobbit Casa. When do you go to Sweden...?

You threw away bookshelves? Nonononono.
Because we are living in my mother's house, and she has a library with built in wall to floor bookshelves, for the first time in my life, I have an excess of shelving. So they sit safely on a raised platform in the shed - because we will move long before my book collection diminishes...

And I still share your sorrow at killing your offspring ... sorry ... having to cull your books. Broke my heart having to reduce 2,000 to 300 to move home to Australia.

Thursday. And whenever you like, darling, as long as you're prepared to put up with lots of crates scattered around, and towers books preparing to do Babel impressions.

On which note, if we get finished before tomorrow evening, we may go and watch the Hitchhikers Guide at the Cinema.

Well, we threw away one bookshelf, and one shelving unit that has been doing double duty as another bookshelf will have to go. Two small, cheap bookshelves will be staying, tho (or rather, moving!).

We lost maybe 1/4 to 1/5 of our books to good homes/charity shops. It was like being stabbed ;)

Poor soul. I have been parted with the majority of my books for four years now. I am lucky that my parents don't begrudge the space. I visited my children when I was in CA two weeks ago, and was wistful about some.

I think we're okay. And sure, we'll give you a ring when we know what we're doing.

At the height on one's madness of course one calls Juan!

(Or maybe one has to be at the height of madness to call him?)
