Politics...
Mar. 7th, 2005 07:23 pmSCA politics. Doncha just love it.
Rent-a-Don has, of late, become the Rapier highlight of the year for the Drachenwald Rapier Community- rather taking over from Academy of Defence/Collegium of Defence/Whatever, which has been rather irregular in its appearances.
This year, Baron Gwylym was the rented Don, coming over from Arizona to teach. So. A fencing event, you would say. Erm. No. Sadly, it was somewhat highjacked by other things- partially by the ubiquitous heavy combat stuff (although I will say in their defence that they kept a very low profile, and permitted themselves to be shunted around willy-nilly), and partially by politics. Ah yes. You see, what should have been a fairly straightforward Rubber-stamping parliament got transformed into a 2 hour slog-a-thon by a seemingly innocent question ('What are the plans for Insulae Draconis to progress to Principality?'). Sadly, since I'm a Kingdom officer (for my sins, and for another 2 years and 4 months...), I didn't really feel I could go and enjoy myself whilst that slog was getting done. So, that took out a chunk. Sadly, I also got mugged to do various things (like herald and marshal the prize fights, and do some of the kitchen clean up, and run general errands, as well as the usual chirurgeonate stuff) which also took out a chunk of the event. Ah well- I find it very hard to say no.
Anyway, all in all a fun event, although the large numbers of people there (far more non-fencers than fencers-and-hangers-on) led to a rather cold event, since the heated rooms just weren't big enough for the numbers involved. Nice feast tho', and thankfully four layers of silk and one of linen makes for a warm hobbit.

Did you actually get to DO any fencing???!!!
Good you mentioned the feast, as someone quite close to you would have otherwise had to remind you!

Date: 2005-03-08 06:44 pm (UTC)"I'm not on duty for the Chirurgeonate at all this war, but am available in case of emergencies, and my Marshalling will be restricted to the Brighthelm Tourney"
gets translated as....
"Please come and ask me for second opinions, to do ward rounds, and in extreme cases, come and drag me out of the shower to run semi-clad across the war field because 'someone's down, it's bad' ;)"
I don't really mind, I just enjoy grumbling ;)

Date: 2005-03-09 04:39 pm (UTC)Well... even if we can't burn it all maybe we can cut it down a bit. But that's a discussion I think we need to take offline. :) Don't want folks to get all worried or political, do we?
